River
River was brought to Tiny Hooves Sanctuary by Kenosha Animal Control in June 2018. She was just a baby, running for her life down a busy frontage road. Once she settled in with us, we had our vet check her right away. River had pneumonia and her body was exhausted. Her illness was immediately treated, yet we were contacted by her previous “owner” wanting her back. By law, we had to return her, as it was still within a 5 day animal control hold period. Once we got there, we begged and pleaded for her life. We learned that he had purchased her to slaughter and eat, and when he set her down for a second, she took off. She literally ran for her life, at a month old. River knew what was coming, and knew she had to get away. After explaining to the person how much she meant to us, how sick she was, and what a good life she could have, he reluctantly released rights to us, so that River could live in sanctuary for her entire life. River has made great friends with our other sheep residents, in particular Sansa. Some of River’s favorite snacks are animal crackers, green beans, baby carrots, and apple slices!
