Ramona and her horse friends Jake and Roxanne were surrendered to us when we moved onto our property in December 2018. They had been previously boarded at the property for years beforehand, and their person just couldn’t afford to move them elsewhere, or continue the care they needed as senior horses. Although we are Tiny Hooves, we were happy to help out these big hooves in their time of need. Ramona was trained and ridden her entire life, and now is retired with us for the rest of her years. She is one of the most sweet, laid back horses we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She suffers from Cushing’s Disease, and struggles with hoof issues, but we have a special farrier who works on her feet every 6 weeks to help keep her comfortable and live a good life. She also receives medication daily, which helps regulate her body in a more healthy way. We have to watch how much sugar intake Ramona gets, so she can’t have very many snacks, but the occasional apple slice is well appreciated! One of her favorite things to do is roll in the mud after it rains.
