Penelope was found abandoned at a rural intersection in Rockford, IL hiding under a pine tree. She started out with many issues - severe mange on her skin, overgrown hooves, she was “fat blind and fat deaf” due to being grossly overweight, and it was apparent he was suffering from lots of trauma. She came to us massively depressed, but has since started enjoying her life in sanctuary with her pig friends. Usually pigs in this condition come from somewhere that has severely improperly cared for them, either as a “pet” or a breeder. Feeding them people food, junk food, and dog food are all very common things, and they are all very incorrect. Penelope has overcome quite a lot, and though her body shows physical scars, mentally she has chosen to find joy in her life - we are so happy for her! Penelope is a big fan of sunny days, taking a dip in the mud when it’s hot, and every night wrapping herself up like a burrito in her blankets. She absolutely loves pumpkins, apples, strawberries, and animal crackers!
