Betsy joined our forever flock family in 2017. She came from a backyard hobby farmer that no longer wanted their hens, as their egg production slowed down significantly. Betsy is a lovely lady, and she knows it! She enjoys spending time dust bathing, hanging out with her friends, and talking - always talking! She is that old lady that screams “get off my lawn!” Betsy loves sunflower seeds, blueberries, and popcorn snacks.

*Once hens reach about the age of two, their bodies are no longer able to keep up with the daily egg production. Chickens have been selectively bred over hundreds of years to lay eggs daily or almost daily. This is not normal for any species, as egg laying naturally would be for reproduction of their species, not for human consumption. Because humans have done this, many, if not most, hens will suffer from reproductive diseases. We do not eat or sell eggs at Tiny Hooves Sanctuary, and in fact we feed their eggs right back to the hens to replace their iron, protein, and calcium that their entire body put into the creation of that egg.*
