Bethanie

Bethanie joined our forever flock family in 2018. She came from an animal control neglect seizure case. Bethanie is a spicy lady, who always has something to say, and says it loudly! She spends her days in her flock, bossing around her rooster Toby, while the other hens know their place in Bethanie’s world. She enjoys a good sun bath, playing in her dirt pool, and snacking on the occasional blackberries and sunflower treats!

*Once hens reach about the age of two, their bodies are no longer able to keep up with the daily egg production. Chickens have been selectively bred over hundreds of years to lay eggs daily or almost daily. This is not normal for any species, as egg laying naturally would be for reproduction of their species, not for human consumption. Because humans have done this, many, if not most, hens will suffer from reproductive diseases. We do not eat or sell eggs at Tiny Hooves Sanctuary, and in fact we feed their eggs right back to the hens to replace their iron, protein, and calcium that their entire body put into the creation of that egg.*
