Azul
Azul came to his forever home with us at Tiny Hooves Sanctuary in the summer of 2021. He was wandering downtown Union Grove for over two months. A few families started providing him with bird seed and water bowls, and he began to stay within this residential area. Word of mouth finally reached us, and knowing that peacocks are not indigenous to this country, and do not live well through our Midwest winters, we knew we had to jump into action! A wonderful couple was able to successfully capture him in their garage like we had suggested, so that we could more easily capture him to bring him home to us.
Peacocks are fully flighted birds, meaning they can fly up and away from anyone trying to capture them, so we were quite lucky to help him, and he really needed our help. Azul had a giant open wound on his chest that was very infected and infested with bugs. We rushed him to our avian vet, who was able to clean him up and suture him back together, and we were sent home with fingers crossed all around that he would heal. It took many months to fully heal, and many, many bandage changes and angry peacock sounds, but he is now healed and learning to trust us.
Azul’s absolute favorite thing in this world is a bowl of fresh blackberries! He enjoys living with his wife Persephone the peahen and his chicken friends, and watching their daily antics.
