Amari
Amari arrived to Tiny Hooves Sanctuary in May 2020. He is what we call a “freedom jumper”, a piglet that jumped out of the transport truck on the way to the finishing farm (where they raise them until 6 months when slaughtered). He jumped in South Dakota, where a nice stranger picked him up and brought him to a vet. They tracked down the farmer by his ear tattoo, who then wanted him euthanized. The vet refused, and was able to get him surrendered to her. She couldn’t keep him, but could not fathom his death, especially after fighting so hard for his life. Maria at Bruno’s Barn was able to get him to her in Minnesota, and then transported to us. Amari was just 5 weeks old when he arrived. Piglets on transport trucks are 3 weeks old when they go to the finishing farms. Amari is now a happy, healthy, and growing boy! He is incredibly polite and sweet, and loves belly rubs and back scratches. Some of his favorite snacks are strawberries and fig bars!
