Alaska
Alaska was abandoned in a residential neighborhood on someone’s man-made pond in their front yard in January 2021. The neighbors all tried to find her previous home/person, as they thought maybe she was lost, but that was not the case. Dumping domestic ducks and geese at ponds and lakes is quite common, and almost indefinitely a death sentence for them. They cannot fly long distance, and in the Wisconsin winter months, there are no food sources. We were notified of her presence, and two volunteers were able to successfully capture her from the pond. She was likely hand-raised, as she is quite social with humans. She really enjoys being a part of our geese flock. We call her “the peacekeeper” because she doesn’t let anyone in her flock argue or fight, she breaks it up immediately! Her favorite snack of all time is leafy lettuce!
